Can your network accommodate the changing world of business communications?
Remember when 1MB DSL over your network was good enough? Now with online streaming and cloud-based applications, anything less than fibre seems sluggish. New collaboration platforms, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs and cloud computing are all data hogs, and they are stretching many legacy networks. The impact of virtualization is also being felt in the datacentre. The consolidation of applications into less space has also introduced bottlenecks because of the smaller number of physical devices. Many of our customers are interested in business video, but it’s also data-intensive; to support it, you need sufficient bandwidth to avoid choppy video or frozen images as well as to accommodate competing network traffic.
It goes without saying that that the network is the foundation for your IT infrastructure. It gives you the ability to easily and securely deliver new applications and services – over Ethernet cables and wirelessly, within the local area network, and via the internet to any connected location. Your network must reconcile competing needs for bandwidth and shape traffic to provide low-latency where needed for smooth interactive video and voice.
It must also support the new capacity demands driven by evolving technology, allow entry only to authorized traffic and keep your users connected without downtime.

Tools and applications to assist with evolving your network such as vLANs and SDN are evolving almost as quickly as the volume of traffic is growing. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is one of the most interesting as it puts the power to control the network traffic back in the hands of the business leaders in IT- rather than in those of the highly technical resources. With SDN, the administrator can shape traffic from a centralized control console without having to touch the individual switches. Allowing real-time adjustments that give particular users, departments or applications the bandwidth they need to perform their tasks.
Our customers come to us for help with designing, building, extending and managing networks and all the elements that comprise them. This includes servers, routers, switches, as well as infrastructure for email, wireless, voice and video. By starting with an assessment of what’s happening today, we can work with you to come up with a plan that doesn’t involve just purchasing more and more bandwidth in the hopes of resolving the issue. By analyzing and reporting on your total network consumption, and then looking at the specific utilization for voice, video, data and specific business critical applications such as Exchange and ERP, we can then help you shape the traffic so that the applications you have get the priority they need.
